The OIP Library Assistance Program (LAP) provides APS publications to developing country libraries and institutions that do not have access or cannot afford them. OIP also assists APS members who wish to donate APS resources (books, DVDs, compendia) to designated libraries. We accept donation compendiums and new books to our collections. If you believe any of the volumes hold historical importance, we would be honored to accept them. This program has benefited many students and faculty in developing countries.

The textbooks and compendia donated by the APS OIP Library Donation and Books for the World programs will be an invaluable addition to our plant pathology capacity building program in the Lao PDR. The bulk of the books will be housed in the Crop Disease Diagnostics Laboratory of the Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Office in Pakse, Champasak Province, with copies distributed to a second diagnostic laboratory in Savannakhet Province, the Sai-Nyai eco-school located in Batchieng District and the National University of Laos, Nabong Campus. The books will assist current and future volunteers (such as Dr Ireland, an Australian Volunteer for International Development), as well the local laboratory staff (three young Lao women) in diagnostic, training and extension efforts to district and provincial staff and farmers.

The Library Assistance Program of the APS Office of International Programs recently donated nine volumes of the Annual Review of Phytopathology and a copy of Hungry Planet to the library of the National Agricultural Research Institute (INIAP) Santa Catalina station in Ecuador. The librarian María de Lourdes Guerra Castillo says that these are the first and only copies of the Annual Review and have a permanent location with a few other Spanish language books on plant pathology. Miss Guerra mentioned that the library does get foreign book donations from time to time and they are always greatly appreciated.
