Ag Education National Research Agenda

The American Association for Agricultural Education (AAAE), has set their research priority areas indicating the focus and commitment. They have six priorities and number three is “sufficient scientific and professional workforce that addresses the challenges of the 21st century”. They cite CSAW in the description of the priority.

 Plant Science Decadal Vision

The American Society of Plant Biologists with the help of many other organizations created this vision as a result of a two-phase summit. The vision calls for specific actions including changes to graduate training and the formation of a National Plant Science Council.

A new organization has been formed of scientific societies related to food and agriculture, companies, universities and government to identify actions that connect and create careers in food and agriculture.

A New Biology for the 21st Century, the National Bio economy Blueprint (National Academies)

A New Biology for the 21st Century recommends that a "New Biology" approach--one that depends on greater integration within biology, and closer collaboration with physical, computational, and earth scientists, mathematicians and engineers--be used to find solutions to four key societal needs: sustainable food production, ecosystem restoration, optimized biofuel production, and improvement in human health.

Summary of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology report to the president November 2012. One of six recommendations was to, “Greatly expand a competitively awarded fellowship program for graduate students and post-doctoral researchers at a level of $180 million per year with at least 5-year funding”

Recommendations from this group related to agricultural research, education, extension, which included support public-private partnerships to leverage resources for research; support dedication of 20% of funds within Perkins Reauthorization Act toward agricultural technology and education; support provisions to increase mandatory funding …..and grants to land-grant colleges and universities for food and agriculture science programs and education.
