Foundation Board members​  About APS Foundation​

Purpose

To promote and enhance educational experience, professional development, and research projects of APS members, through innovative initiatives providing growth and opportunities that meet the Society's objectives and support advancing the study and practice of plant pathology. ​

Organizational Structure and Voting Members

  • ​Chair (appointed by the Foundation Board)
  • ​(4) members appointed by APS Council selected from nominees recommended by the Foundation Board​. ​
  • (3) members appointed by the Foundation Board (with at least one being a representative from industry).
  • (1) Graduate Student Representative (current ​APS Graduate Student Committee Chair) 

In ​addition, the APS Treasurer, Chief Executive Officer, and APS staff serve as nonvoting members. ​​

Quorum​

Five of the nine voting members shall be a quorum for conducting business, and five votes are necessary to carry an issue.

Terms

  • The Chair serves a three-year term and may not serve more than two consecutive terms. A Chair-Elect is elected by the Board during the last year of the current chair’s term for a one-year term to shadow the current chair before assuming the role the following year. 
  • Appointed voting members serve staggered three-year terms and shall not serve more than two consecutive terms.
  • The Graduate Student Representative serves a one-year term that coincides with their chair term on the APS Graduate Student Committee.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Solicit and award the Foundation's funds.

  • Identify and describe appropriate projects for the use of donated funds.

  • Ensure the Foundation program​ offers a wide variety of funding opportunities and other objectives that align with the overall goals and vision of APS. 
  • The Chair will provide updates on contributions and awards to the Board, and will prepare and submit an annual report​ to APS Council.
  • ​The APS Treasurer serves in an advisory role to the Board as the APS Council liaison.
