Gone bananas: Panama disease’s potential impact on production

<div><span face="Calibri" style="font-family:Calibri;" size="3">Randy Ploetz is a Professor of Plant Pathology at the University of Florida’s Tropical Research & Education Center and a Fellow of the American Phytopathological Society. He has researched diseases of tropical fruit crops since 1986, and in 1989 first identified what is now known as tropical race 4 (TR4) of Panama disease. TR4 now devastates plantations of Cavendish banana in the Eastern Hemisphere, and threatens export plantations of the crop in tropical America.</span></div>
