Stripe Rust (Puccinia striiformis) on Orchardgrass in Oregon. J. R. Hardison, Department of Botany and Plant Pathology, Oregon State University, Corvallis 97331. Plant Dis. 68:1099. Accepted for publication 3 1 August 1984. Copyright 1984 The American Phytopathological Society. DOI: 10.1094/PD-68-1099f.

Puccinia srriiformis Westend. was collected on orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerara L.) at many locations in western Oregon during April-July 1984. Apparently, this is the first record of stripe rust on orchardgrass in North America. Uredinia occurred on leaf blades but were especially prominent on basal portions of the leaf sheath, on the upper stem, and on panicle branches. Stripe rust has been serious on Kentucky bluegrass seed crops since that race appeared during 1958 in Oregon. The potential danger of stripe rust to orchardgrass seed crops has not yet been determined. Control can be integrated with a chemical program being developed for control of Selenophoma stem eyespot and several other leaf diseases.
