Effect of the Pathotoxin Victorin on the Pattern of Glucose Catabolism in Susceptible Oats. Carroll D. Rawn, Graduate Student, Department of Plant Pathology, University of Kentucky, Lexington 40506; Harry Wheeler, Professor, Department of Plant Pathology, University of Kentucky, Lexington 40506. Phytopathology 64:905-906. DOI: 10.1094/Phyto-64-905.

Decreases in the ratio of 14CO2 derived from glucose-6-14C to that from glucose-1-14C (the C6/C1 ratio) have been observed in a variety of diseased plant tissues. Victorin, the pathotoxin produced by Helminthosporium victoriae, causes a decrease in the C6/C1 ratio of susceptible oat leaves. This provides additional evidence that victorin induces metabolic alterations similar to those found in other diseased plants.
