Effect of Alanine on Development of Verticillium Wilt in Cotton Cultivars with Different Levels of Resistance. Dilbagh Singh, Professor of Biology, Blackburn College, Carlinville, Illinois 62626; L. A. Brinkerhoff(2), and Gene Guinn(3). (2)(3)Plant Pathologist and Plant Physiologist, respectively, Crops Research Division, ARS, USDA, Stillwater, Oklahoma 74074. Phytopathology 61:881-882. DOI: 10.1094/Phyto-61-881.

Alanine injected in the xylem increased both the severity of Verticillium wilt symptoms and the rate of disease development in the young fast-growing plants of susceptible (Stoneville 62) and tolerant (Oklahoma 141-5) cotton cultivars. However, resistant Seabrook plants showed no change in resistance after alanine uptake.
