Transgenic plants were produced that expressed a wide range of randomly chosen sequences of the tripartite tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) RNA genome or its complement. Testing the progenies of these plants revealed that only transgenic expression of N or NSM gene sequences resulted in resistance to TSWV.
