Hotel Information

Reservation deadline has been extended through February 12 (extended a second time from February 8 and from January 29) for reduced rate and is subject to availability)

Ten rooms are being held open at The Sheraton Tampa East Hotel at the group rate of $139/night (single or double) until midnight on February 8, 2016. Once these rooms fill up, there is no guarantee of room availability at the hotel or on the nightly rate of the room. You may use the hotel registration website until midnight on February 8 to book your room.

Transportation Information

Airport Transportation: There is no shuttle service available from the hotel, which is about 16 miles from Tampa International Airport.  A special rate has been arranged with Super Shuttle for travel between the Airport and the Sheraton. Round trip transportation using the Super Shuttle Shared Ride Van Service at the discounted rate is $16 (+ tax).

Workshop 

Saturday, February 20, 2015

The first module of the “Careers 101” curriculum, “CV101”, developed by CADRE and the APS Leadership Institute will be presented over lunch. The focus of this module will be the curriculum vitae. Graduate students and post-docs are invited to attend. Lunch will be provided. Please be sure to indicate if you will be attending this program on your registration form so that we can get an accurate head count. More information about “Careers 101” is available on page 143 of the November 2015 issue of Phytopathology News.

 

Field Trip

This year meeting attendees will have the option to participate in a field trip. The field trip, “Vegetable-Strawberry Production Tour”, will showcase strawberry and vegetable production in Florida. The field trip will depart from and return to the Sheraton. Specific departure and arrival times are TBD (to be determined), but the field trip will depart in the early morning and should wrap up by 1 pm. Please be sure to sign up and submit payment for the field trip ($35) when you register for the meeting.



Call for Abstracts


The SD-APS program will consist of oral and poster presentations. The SDAPS meeting is an excellent opportunity for graduate students to obtain oral presentation experience at a professional meeting.

by December 18, 2015. Please be sure to indicate (1) if you want to have your abstract published, (2) if you will be giving a poster or oral presentation, and (3) if you will be participating in one of the student award competitions. (This year, there will be a student award competition for poster presentations as well as for the oral presentations.)

Please note that space for oral presentations in the SD-APS meeting program is limited. Graduate students and participants in the graduate student award competition will be given priority in presenting oral presentations. If you submit an abstract for an oral presentation and are not participating in the student competition, you may be asked to present your paper in the form of a poster rather than as an oral presentation.

Also be aware that the criteria for abstract acceptance and the instructions for submission have been updated. The updated criteria and instructions are available at:

Please note that abstracts should be reviewed by all authors AND peer-reviewed by two additional people.

Additional abstract requirements: At least one author of each paper presented at the meeting must be an APS member.  Only abstracts of those papers actually presented at the meeting and for which the abstract fee has been paid will be published and only unpublished information may be included. 

Abstract payments: Abstracts must be paid through the registration form (online or paper) and will not be accepted through the abstract submission form. Abstract fees are $45 if paid by the advanced registration deadline (January 29, 2016) and $55 if paid after that deadline. 

Oral presentation guidelines: Fifteen minutes will be allowed for each oral paper, 12 minutes for presentation and 3 minutes for questions.  Equipment will be available for digital presentations (PowerPoint) via LCD.  Bring your presentation in PowerPoint (PC compatible) on a USB memory stick.

Poster presentation guidelines: Posters will follow standard APS guidelines and must not exceed 46 inches wide by 45 inches high.

 

Below are the instructions for submitting your abstract:

1) Go to the ABSTRACT SUBMISSION FORM
2) Enter presentation type, title and abstract
3) Add presenter and author information
4) A pop up will confirm your submisision and you will ill receive an e-mail notification that your abstract has been submitted.
5) A $45 publication fee ($55 after 1/29/16) is required if you would like your abstract published, and payment must be remitted via your meeting registration form.

You can withdraw or reinstate your abstract submission before the December 18 deadline.

Meeting Registration

The early registration fee (on or before January 29, 2016) will be $150 for regular APS members and post-docs, $50 for student APS members, and $170 for non-APS members. After January 29, the registration fees will increase to $200, $75, and $220, respectively. The registration fee covers coffee breaks, meeting rooms, equipment rentals, meals at the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center, and Southern Division banquet at the Sheraton Tampa East Hotel.  Registration can be paid online in advance (preferable) or at the meeting with a credit card.
