The USDA-ARS is seeking a Research Geneticist (Plants) scientist to work at the Vegetable and Forage Crops Research Unit in Prosser, WA. The incumbent will conduct molecular biology and genetics research aimed at improving alfalfa by developing molecular markers for resistance or tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses. Independent research identifies and maps genetic determinants of disease resistance, enhanced water use efficiency, and tolerance to drought, salinity and heat stresses in alfalfa with emphasis on marker development, linkage mapping, and QTL analysis. Incumbent collaborates with other scientist is in ARS Universities and the private sector. Knowledge gained will be applied to improving forage crop resistance/tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses. U.S. citizenship is required.
