Arthroconidia Formation in Cultures of Marasmius perniciosus. Julio C. Delgado, INIAP, Guayaquil, Ecuador, Department of Plant Pathology, University of Florida, Gainesville 32611; A. A. Cook, INIAP, Guayaquil, Ecuador, Department of Plant Pathology, University of Florida, Gainesville 32611. Phytopathology 66:717-718. Accepted for publication 19 December 1975. DOI: 10.1094/Phyto-66-717.

Binucleate arthroconidia developed when specific single-basidiospore isolates of Marasmius perniciosus from Trinidad and Surinam were paired in culture. Arthroconidia developed from dikaryotic hyphae with clamp connections and germinated to produce similar hyphae. Symptoms were not induced in cacao seedlings inoculated with arthroconidia.

Additional keywords: Crinipellis perniciosa, witches’ broom of cacao.
