The concentration of free amino acids was unchanged in the fibrous roots of Beta patellaris (a resistant species) in nematode-infected plants. In the fibrous roots of nematode-infected plants of B. vulgaris (a susceptible species), concentrations of total amino acids, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, and glutamine were significantly increased.
