A white, powdery growth appears on the lower surfaces of the leaves. The patches later coalesce, leading to drying of the leaves. In cases of severe infection, symptoms advance to the upper surfaces and cover the entire leaves. The fungus produces characteristic chasmothecia with mycelial appendages. The primary source of infection is ascospores (sexual); the secondary source is conidia (asexual).
