A white, powdery growth appears on the upper leaf surfaces. The disease slows photosynthesis, resulting in a reduction in economic yield. Severely infected leaves detach and fall to the ground. The pathogen spreads via airborne conidia and survives on the infected plant debris. Sulfur fungicides can be used to manage the disease.
