Host: Musa acuminata Colla (banana)Disease name: Bacterial soft rot of bananaPathogen name: Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum
Banana seedling infected with bacterial soft rot.
Infection of newly planted banana suckers results in rotting and emission of a foul odor. In older plants, rotting occurs at the collar region and leaf bases. In advanced cases, the trunk base becomes swollen and splits. The economic loss is greatest when the disease occurs at the time of bunch formation, which is often seen in orchards.
