Host: Linum perenne L. (native wild flax) Disease name: RustPathogen name: Melampsora lini (Ehrenb.) Lév.
Rust on native wild flax: Linum perenne and L. lewisii.
Rust is recognized by the bright orange, powdery pustules that develop on leaves and stems. These pustules are usually circular on leaves but elongated on the stems. Severe epidemics cause the leaves to dry and wither, resulting in premature defoliation of the plants. Early infections and rapid disease development are favored by excessively moist soil conditions.
