Stemphylium fruit spot of papaya caused by Stemphylium lycopersici. This disease is widespread in the tropics although unusual on fruit kept at room temperature and ripened within 5-7 days of harvest. Various hot and cold treatments, which papayas go through to meet quarantine requirements, and long-term storage and shipping are responsible for making the otherwise resistant papaya fruit susceptible.
