APS Press Publishes and Takes Orders Online
Contributed by
Randy Ploetz
Editor-in-Chief, APS Press
University of Florida, Homestead
Items like the popular Compendia Series can now be ordered any time, day or night.
Secure Online Orders
APS Press recently announced two new offerings at the improved APS
net
site. First, it is now possible to purchase any item in the APS Press catalog online. This feature represents a significant improvement over the old ways by which you ordered from APS Press. Using a credit card, APS Press products can be ordered in a matter of minutes 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Importantly, every transaction that is conducted through the APS Press store is encrypted using Yahoo technology and is thus secure. Any personal information that is collected during your purchase will not be sold to other organizations or companies. For members of APS, please be aware that discounts for quantity and member purchases are still made via this site. These discounts will be applied after the order has been received but before your credit card is charged. We invite you to join us in our entry into e-commerce by ordering your next APS Press product online.
F & N Tests Available in Online Resources
The second offering is the first online product from APS Press. As you know, APS Press has assumed responsibility for publishing F & N Tests. Beginning with volume 55, 2000, an online version of F & N Tests will be available on APS
net
under ONLINE RESOURCES (print versions of F & N Tests are still found in the APS Press bookstore). Beginning with volume 56, F & N Tests will be available only in this online format; print versions will not be available. Although this step was taken to reduce the costs associated with print publication, I believe this change will actually increase the value of future volumes of this publication. As new volumes are published, subscribers will have access to the entire electronic archive of F & N Tests. Via a search function, subscribers will then be able to review information quickly and efficiently in the archive. Thus, information on the efficacy of certain products or on what has been tested against a given disease will be more easily and conveniently accessed than ever before.
Proposals Sought for Online-Only Publication
In closing, I invite you to consider publishing with APS Press online. APS is quickly becoming the leader in plant health electronic services and products offered over the web. I encourage you to contact myself or Karen Cummings, Publications Manager, (
kcummings@scisoc.org
) if you are interested in publishing such a product with APS Press.
