A virus with filamentous particles that was isolated from mottled leaves of Lonicera periclymenum L. ‘Belgica’ collected from a nursery near Victoria, B.C., induced symptoms in six of 19 manually inoculated herbaceous species in two of seven families. All symptomatic species were previously reported hosts of honeysuckle latent virus (HLV). In immunosorbent electron microscopy (ISEM) tests with leaf extracts from infected Nicotiana benthamiana Domin, N. clevelandii Gray, and N. megalosiphon Heurck & Meull., numerous filamentous particles were trapped on grids coated with HLV antiserum provided by D. Z. Maat. The normal length of trapped particles from each species was 685 nm. After a decoration step, all particles observed in ISEM preparations appeared to be uniformly coated with antibodies to HLV. This virus has been reported previously only from Europe.
