Gary A Chastagner
received B. A. degrees in biology and industrial arts from California
State University, Fresno and the MS and PhD degrees from the
University of California, Davis. Gary joined the Department of Plant
Pathology at Washington State University in 1978 to investigate
pathogens and diseases of ornamental bulb crops, turfgrass and
Christmas trees. His research interests include etiology, epidemiology
and management of plant pathogens with emphasis on fungal diseases of
ornamental bulbs and Christmas trees. He also conducts research on the
postharvest handling and keepability of cut Christmas trees. Gary has
authored numerous scientific articles, book chapters, compendium
articles, and extension publications. He recently edited Christmas
Tree Diseases, Insects, & Disorders in the Pacific Northwest:
Identification and Management. He has served on several APS
committees including the Diseases of Ornamental Plants and Turfgrass
and Illustrations of Plant Pathogens and Diseases committees He has
served as Secretary/Treasurer and President of APS Pacific Division
and currently serves as Division Councilor. In addition to APS, Gary
is a member of the International Society of Plant Pathology, International
Society for Horticultural Science, and Sigma Xi.

D. Michael Benson received his B. S.
degree in biology from Earlham College and the MS and PhD degrees from
Colorado State University. Mike joined the Department of Plant
Pathology at North Carolina State University in 1974 to investigate
soilborne pathogens and diseases of ornamentals and Christmas trees.
He is currently professor and director of graduate programs in the
department. He teaches courses on principles of plant pathology and
soilborne plant pathogens. His research interests include ecology and
epidemiology of soilborne plant pathogens with emphasis on biological
control of root-infecting fungi attacking ornamentals and Christmas
trees. |
