Comparison of pathogenic enterobacteria to K-12 by genomic sampling. The outer ring shows the result of 1067 random E. coli O157:H7 strain EDL933 sequences queried against K-12 (strain MG1655) DNA and protein databases using NCBI BLAST 2.0. Each sequence is plotted at the coordinates of the K-12 sequence it matches (tickmarks indicate 0.25 Mb increments). Consecutive rings moving inward are analogous plots for enterotoxigenic E. coli (strain H10407), uropathogenic E. coli (CFT073), Shigella flexneri (2a-245T), Salmonella typhi (Ty2), Yersinia pestis (KIM5) and Erwinia chrysanthemi (3937) sequences, respectively. For each species the protein matches (E< 10E-05) are plotted on the inside of the ring, DNA matches (E< 10E-05) on the outside. All sequences were collected from whole genome random shotgun M13 libraries at the Genome Center of Wisconsin.
