The grape rust was recorded in Brazil in 2001. The symptoms on the adaxial leaf surface, opposite to the uredial pustules, are characterized by brown necrotic spots and develop on the mature leaves. The disease provokes premature defoliation of the plants and reduction in the growth. The main commercial varieties of grape are susceptible to the grape rust. The use of fungicides is the principal form of control of the disease.
