Host:
Morus alba (white mulberry)
Disease name: Popcorn disease
Pathogen name: Ciboria carunculoides

Popcorn disease of mulberry, caused by the fungus C. carunculoides, resembles popcorn kernels.  White mulberry varieties and hybrids are most susceptible to this southern disease.  Popcorn disease is not considered economically important on ornamental mulberries.  However, yield losses on mulberries propagated for fruit production can occur.  Remove and bury infected fruit and organic debris as it appears during the growing season.
