The USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service seeks public comments by October 16, 2006 on the paperwork and regulatory burdens associated with the extension of an existing Information Collection Request, titled "Cooperative Agricultural Pest Survey," OMB Number: 0579-0010 - In seeking public comments on the ICR, APHIS notes that its " ... Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) program ... has joined forces with the States and other agencies to create a program called the Cooperative Agricultural Pest Survey (CAPS). The CAPS program collects and manages data on plant pests, noxious weeds, and biological control agents, which may be used to control plant pests or noxious weeds. Comment Period Opens on TRED for Methyl Bromide, RED for Methyl Bromide Commodity Uses
- EPA has released its Tolerance Reassessment and Risk Management Decision (TRED) for methyl bromide and Reregistration Eligibility Decision (RED) for methyl bromide's commodity uses, and has opened a public comment period on these documents. The RED covers methyl bromide uses that have accompanying food residue tolerances, such as post-harvest fumigation of food commodities in chambers at ports or specialized structural fumigations at food processing facilities, as well as some uses without tolerances that are performed in similar facilities. A decision on the reregistration of methyl bromide's non-commodity uses that do not have food tolerances (e.g., pre-plant soil, greenhouse, residential) is scheduled to be completed in 2007 with the other soil fumigants. Comments, identified by ID number EPA-HQ-OPP-2005-0123, must be received on or before October 10, 2006.

Coppers Reregistration Eligibility Decision Available for Comment - EPA has released its Reregistration Eligibility Decision for copper-containing pesticides and has opened a public comment period on this document and its supporting documents. Coppers are used in agriculture as a broad-spectrum fungicide and bactericide on virtually all food and ornamental crops, for algae control in catfish aquaculture, and in direct aquatic applications as an algaecide, herbicide, molluscicide, and leech control. Coppers are also registered for antimicrobial applications, including use as an anti-foulant and preservative. Comments, identified by ID number EPA-HQ-OPP-2005-0558, must be received on or before October 10, 2006.

EPA Invites Comments on Pentachloronitrobenzene (PCNB) Reregistration Eligibility Decision
- EPA has released its Reregistration Eligibility Decision for the pesticide PCNB and has opened a public comment period on this document. The Agency has determined that most uses are not eligible for reregistration. The eligible uses are: cole crops (for treatment of clubroot only), ornamental bulbs in commercial production, and seed treatments. This decision is based on ecological risks of concern and the impact of PCNB's ability to persist in the environment. Dietary risks are not of concern for the general population or for children. The Agency has identified a number of measures that it believes are necessary to reduce risks associated with the remaining uses of PCNB. EPA has reviewed PCNB through the full six-phase public participation process. Comments, identified by ID number EPA-HQ-OPP-2004-0202, must be received on or before October 2, 2006.
