Date: July 28, 2005

EPA's preliminary risk assessments and related documents for the first four soil fumigants being evaluated (dazomet, metam-sodium, methyl bromide, Telone) are available for public comment from July 13 through September 12, 2005. The Agency is interested in receiving stakeholder input on alternatives, benefits and risk mitigation options associated with the uses of these soil fumigants. Important guidance on the types of information EPA is soliciting on each of the four soil fumigants is accessible via a link from the Soil Fumigants website at http://www.epa.gov/oppsrrd1/reregistration/soil_fumigants.

The Microbial Observatories and Microbial Interactions and Processes Program Solicitation (replaces NSF 04-586) has been released. Two significant changes have been made in this solicitation: (1) The annual proposal submission target date has been changed from August to October. (2) The Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture will be partnering with NSF to support Microbial Observatory projects relevant to agroecosystems. http://www.nsf.gov/publications/pub_summ.jsp?ods_key=nsf05600
