APS LEGISLATIVE ALERT EMAIL

DATE: June 13, 2003

TO: U.S. APS Members

FROM: APS Public Policy Board

SUBJECT: Legislative Alert - NEON Input Requested

To all U.S. APS Members,

On behalf of the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS), a scientific society with who APS maintains an affiliation, the federal action on the proposed National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) is being brought to the attention of APS members.  The Infrastructure for Biology at Regional to Continental Scales is a project of AIBS and is seeking input and support of the white paper "Rationale, Blueprint, and Expectations for the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON)."  The white paper can be viewed online at http://ibrcs.aibs.org, or hard copy obtained by contacting mailto:jgoldman@aibs.org. Your comments can be submitted via email to mailto:jgoldman@aibs.org or mailto:rogrady@aibs.org.

An NRC study of NEON is underway and runs from June 2 to 16. Information can be found at www.nationalacademies.org/neon. As the NSF FY2004 budget request is in the process of being considered for approval, now is a pivotal time for providing input.
