Plan Ahead to Save $$ for the 2006 Québec City Meeting!

Make plans now to attend the 2006 joint meeting, July 29–August 2 in Québec City, Canada. This APS meeting will be held jointly with the Canadian Phytopathological Society (CPS) and the Mycological Society of America (MSA) and will be one of the largest gatherings of plant health professionals worldwide.

We encourage you to register for the meeting and book your hotel rooms early to reduce your overall costs for the meeting. Recently, currency exchange rates have not been favorable for the U.S. dollar. To help mitigate this, APS has negotiated lower rates for a limited number of rooms at the APS headquarters hotels (connected to the convention center). An additional consideration to start planning now is that the meeting takes place in peak vacation season in beautiful Québec City. Here are some ways to reduce your costs:

• Reserve your hotel room in a headquarters hotel—the Hilton Québec and the Delta Québec— today. The APS-negotiated rate for a limited number of rooms in these convenient hotels is just $179 CAD nightly (currently ~$154 USD) plus applicable taxes. These rates are only available until the negotiated block of rooms fills. Once this block fills, the rate will raise to $209 CAD nightly, plus applicable taxes. Because of the special negotiated price, the one-night room charge to hold the reservation, if canceled, is nonrefundable. Staying in a headquarters hotel helps keep overall meeting costs in check (see related article on page 15). In April 2006, a limited number of rooms in additional hotels, not immediately adjacent to the convention center, will be available for reservations, with negotiated rates of $159–$199 CAD.

• Reserve a low-cost dorm room: for students and postdocs only until June 15, 2006. Student and postdoc members will be given first option for booking low-cost dorm rooms at the University of Laval at the rate of $71 CAD nightly, plus tax. This rate includes daily breakfast and, for students and postdocs only, a round-trip bus pass for three days (a value of $15 CAD). After June 15, if any rooms are still available, they will be available to other members for $71 CAD, but this price does NOT include the daily bus pass.

• Register online and save $25 off registration fees. Meeting registration for the joint meeting will open in March 2006. Details for registration will be coming soon!

• Consider paying for your room in full in advance to save on potentially unfavorable currency exchange rates.

To take advantage of these offers, visit http://meeting.apsnet.org and click on the Registration & Hotel link at the top of the page.

Finally, a reminder for those attendees requiring a visa to travel to Canada: Apply for your visa well in advance to be sure you receive the visa in time for the meeting.
