The American Phytopathological Society has joined efforts with the Society
of Nematologists and the Mycological Society of America. We welcome you to
join us August 25-29, 2001, in Salt Lake City, UT, as they present a
superior joint meeting. The appropriate theme selected is “Intersociety
Cooperation and Collaborations.”
This event is a great way to end your summer. Experience an excellent
technical program, make rewarding connections, and visit a city with

deliver cutting-edge information and technology on plant pathology,
mycology, and nematology through high-quality technical sessions, hands-on
workshops, panel discussions, and oral and poster presentations. There
will be unlimited possibilities for exchanging ideas and numerous
opportunities for you to develop professionally. You can increase your
awareness and build your knowledge by attending the wide variety of
sessions. By participating in one of the many social events, you can
network with new people, alumni, and colleagues.

Salt Lake City has spectacular scenery and appealing adventures waiting
for all visitors. Mountains, water, and beauty surround the city. There
are the amazing peaks of the Oquirrh and Wasatch mountain ranges and the
picturesque Great Salt Lake. Make time to try fly fishing in the nearby
Provo River or enjoy the many historical and cultural experiences
available. Salt Lake City is home to the world-famous Mormon Tabernacle
Choir and Kennecott Copper Mine. Salt Lake City will be hosting the 2002
Winter Olympics. You will not want to miss the opportunity to visit the
slopes, bobsled luge track, and the Olympic Village.
Exciting things are sure to happen with this large collaboration of

Announces 2001 JANE Winner

OIP is pleased to announce that Julio Gabriel of Fundacion
PROINPA, Bolivia is the 2001 JANE award winner for his proposal entitled,
“Bolivian Genetic Resources for Sustainable Management of Potato Late
Blight.” Mr. Gabriel will receive $10,000 to conduct research on this
important topic. The John and Anne Niederhauser Endowment (JANE) was
created to facilitate international cooperation related to
research/management of plant diseases with particular emphasis on those
caused by Phytophthora.
