Graduate Student Competition: Evaluation Criteria

Total time available for each contributed paper presentation is 15 minutes. Speakers have a maximum of 12 minutes for their presentation. The remaining time should be reserved for questions.

Criteria upon which the paper will be judged (10% for each item listed):

  1. Abstract: organization, clarity, and completeness
  2. Content
    1. Introduction and objectives (not stated, stated, excellent)
    2. Procedures and experimental design (inappropriate, appropriate, innovative)
    3. Quality and quantitiy of data (poor, adequate, excellent)
    4. Conclusion(s) (not stated, illogical, logical, excellent)
  3. Delivery
    1. Organization (poor, fair, good, excellent)
    2. Visuals, quantity and quality (poor, too few/many, adequate, good, excellent)
    3. Oral presentation (poor, average, excellent)
  4. Response to questions (ambiguous; appropriate; specific, clear, and concise)
  5. Creativity (mundane, safe, innovative, high-risk) and scientific impact (low, moderate, high)
