Dear Colleague, This is the second announcement for the joint Meeting of the Potomac and Northeastern Divisions of APS, to be held March 10-12, 1998 at the Loews Hotel in Annapolis, Maryland. Included are:
The full text of the program will be posted on the Potomac website (see letterhead) and will also be handed out at the meeting. The 1998 Financial and Councilor's reports are available via the website. Hotel Reservations. A block of rooms will be held at the Loews Annapolis Hotel until February 10. Loews is a AAA Four-Diamond award-winning, full-service hotel just three blocks from historic downtown Annapolis and the City Docks. Reservations may be make by telephone (1-800-526-2593). Mention "Potomac and Northeastern Division APS meeting" for a discounted room rate as follows: $115 for a single, $125 for a double, and an additional $10.00 per person for 3 or 4 people per room. Abstracts for contributed papers or posters are optional. Abstracts will be included in program information available at the meeting if submitted by February 17. They will be published on APSNet and in Phytopathology as long as they are submitted no later than at the meeting. Each abstract submitted for publication must be on a diskette, accompanied by a printout and a check for $30.00, and must conform to the instructions (available via the Potomac Website--see letterhead--or APSNet at http://www.scisoc.org/meetings/divabstr/instruct.htm; or may be obtained from Anton Baudoin (540-231-5757 or abaudoin followed by @vt.edu). Make checks payable to "Potomac Division, APS." Abstracts not accompanied by the $30.00 fee will not be published in Phytopathology. Send abstracts and diskettes to Anton Baudoin at the above address by Feb 17 or before the meeting OR bring to the meeting. Ballots: Please mark your ballot, follow instructions on the ballot (sign outer envelope!) and mail to Ethel Dutky before Feb 27, OR bring to the meeting and place in the ballot box (registration table) by Thursday March 11 before lunch. Memorial Fund Graduate Student Travel Grant Award (Potomac Division). The award is made from the interest generated on the Memorial Fund Account. The money is to be used to support the academic or research development of a graduate student within the Potomac Division member institutions. The award may be used, for example, to support travel to an international or national meeting, symposium, or workshop; or to support travel and lodging to gain specific research experience in a laboratory outside of the student's institution and geographic location. Criteria for the Memorial Fund Student Travel
Grant are as follows: 1) must be a member of the Potomac Division at
the time of application; 2) be officially enrolled in a Masters or
Ph.D. program at a Potomac Division academic institution at time of
application; 3) submit a proposal to the selection committee that
demonstrates a compelling academic and/or research need by the
candidate for the experience, travel, or training; 4) use the award
within 12 months of receiving the money at the Potomac Division
Annual Meeting. Selection of this award will be based solely on
scientific merit and will be judged by a committee representing the
graduate institutions and federal agencies within the Potomac
Division. The value of the award will be an amount not to exceed
