Travel Awards are available for Graduate Students and Early Career Professionals on a competitive basis.
Status: Application process opens October 24, 2011.
Deadline: December 1, 2011
Award Amount: Travel awards to consist of complimentary registration, two nights in the conference hotel, and $400 to assist with other travel expenses.
Notification: Applicants will be notified by the end of December 2011 with the award results.
Ten $400 travel awards are available for graduate students and early career professionals with research interests in food safety to attend the Human Pathogens on Plants: A Multidisciplinary Strategy for Research Conference, February 13-15, 2012 in Hyattsville, Maryland. Travel award recipients are required to present a talk or poster during the conference. Conference registration fees for award recipients will be waived and hotel accommodations for two nights will be provided. Applicants from multiple disciplines including but not limited to plant pathology, horticulture and crop sciences, food microbiology, and food science are encouraged to apply. Graduate students or early career professionals representing research from laboratories of principal investigators unable to attend in person are also encouraged to apply.
Requirements for the application are as follows:
1. Provide a statement describing your interest in food safety as it pertains to plant health by drawing on your own research and experiences (500 words maximum). Include one or two sentences that detail how this opportunity would enhance your professional goals.
2. Provide CV (maximum 2 pages) that details food safety related research, leadership and communication experience, including graduate, undergraduate, and/or non-academic activities. You must include the following sections:
• Education• Work experience• Honors and awards• Society memberships• Presentations• Publications
Applications will be accepted from October 24 to December 1, 2011. The December 1 deadline will be strictly enforced.
