Vegetable Extension and Research Plant Pathologists Breakfast

Sunday, August 10, 6:30 - 8:00 a.m.

This annual event, sponsored by the vegetable seed industry, promotes the sharing of ideas on seed health and expounds on the phytosanitary needs of the vegetable seed industry. This year's preliminary topics include 1) non-regulated quarantine pest requirements, 2) organic control of seedborne diseases, and 3) regulatory issues in organic seed. Welcome Reception

Sunday, August 10, 7:30 - 10:00 p.m.

This special event kicks off the APS annual meeting and is a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new acquaintances. The APS is excited to announce a new feature to this event. Led by musicians (and APS members) Chris Mundt and Albert Culbreath, guests will enjoy lively music and entertainment that is sure to get you on your feet. Guests will also be able to connect with the universities listed below who will each have a table at the reception for guests to stop by and reunite with university peers. Grab your partner and swing on in to the APS Welcome Reception!

Joint Committees of Women in Plant Pathology and Cultural Diversity Symposium/Luncheon:
Plant Pathology as a Career Choice

Sunday, August 10, 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.

At this session we welcome students who are members of Minorities in Agriculture and Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS) and APS members who represent the Society's rich, diverse culture to learn more about plant pathology as a career option. Topics include an overview of the types of jobs plant pathologist hold, how APS contributes to fostering careers in plant pathology, and the international connections that are created for plant pathologists with global interests. This session will also include some personal stories from members on the paths they decided to take in preparation for their current roles in the phytopathological community. This symposium is a must for those seeking insight on current career paths in plant pathology. Tickets: $15. See #12 on registration form.

Each year the Industry Committee sponsors a continental breakfast for graduate students. This provides an excellent opportunity for graduate students to visit with representatives from many companies and explore the variety of job opportunities available in industry. deBary Bowl

Monday, August 11, 3:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Based on the 1960s television program, College Bowl, the deBary Bowl is an annual competition in which division teams compete by correctly answering a plethora of questions on phytopathology. It begins with preliminary rounds mid-afternoon and concludes with final rounds in the evening during "social hour." Don't miss this often-hilarious "competitive" event! Prizes are awarded to first and second place teams.

APS Business Meeting and Breakfast

Be sure to register for this important breakfast meeting updating the membership on the latest APS developments and to learn how APS leadership is working on your behalf. Breakfast will be served from 7:00 to 7:45 a.m. Attendees may sit at tables with pre-assigned topics which are open for discussion during breakfast, or sit at a non-topic table to meet new friends. If you would like to facilitate a table topic, please mark the appropriate place on the registration form. This event is included with full meeting registrations but attendees are asked to confirm their attendance by checking #16 on the registration form.

Industry-Extension Social

Tuesday, August 12, 5:00 - 10:00 p.m.

Don't miss this annual favorite. This year's event will take place at Lowe's Motor Speedway where guests will enjoy the exciting grand finale of one of Charlotte's annual car races known as "The Legends Race". Hors d'oeuvres will be served during a post-race reception on the grounds of the speedway. Buses will depart from the East Second Street Entrance of the Charlotte Convention Center. Tickets are $30 regular and $20 student/post-doc. See #18 on the registration form.
