Experience the City

Charlotte is a city with firmly planted roots, thriving amidst seasons of change. The city boasts a unique blend of the new and traditional, conservative and innovative, and represents the new accent of the south - preserving the past, yet embracing the future. APS has assembled the following tours and activities to celebrate this beautiful and diverse city.

A Day with the Queen-Tour of the City of Charlotte

Sunday, August 10, 2003, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.
One of America's most interesting cities, Charlotte has gained notoriety in every sense of the word. As the largest city in the Carolinas, Charlotte offers everything you'd expect from a big city with the friendliness of a small town. One of our "Old South" sights includes The Historic Fourth Ward, a preserved and charming area of Uptown with an abundance of Victorian architecture. One of Uptowns "New South" sights includes the 60-Story Bank of America Headquarters, which currently stands as Charlotte's tallest building. Elegant home sights include neighborhoods such as SouthPark, Myers Park, and Dilworth, home of the historic Charlotte Trolley. Lunch is not included. Tickets are $20 per person. See #23 on the registration form.

Art About Town

Tuesday, August 12, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Visit two of Charlotte's finest museums.

Mint Museum of Art
Yesterday, the first branch of the United States Mint; today, the home of American, European, and African art; Victorian silver; and a collection of 3000 years of ceramics. Founded in 1933 and opened to the public in 1936, the Mint Museum of Art is North Carolina's oldest art museum.

Mint Museum of Craft and Design
Experience the evolution of crafts as it relates to the disciplines of our time. The museum's permanent collection is a series of pieces tracing the Crafts Movement in the 19th century and its relationship with today's decorative arts and design. The techniques and inspiration of artists throughout the world are showcased in collections of ceramics, fiber, glass, metal and wood. Tickets are $40 per person. A boxed lunch is included. See #25 on the registration form.
