Free Access Articles from APS Journals

APS Council makes journal research freely available online after 12 to 24 months.

Research published in Phytopathology and Plant Disease is freely accessible after 24 months of subscriber-only access. Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions (MPMI) research is freely accessible after the first 12 months of publication. In addition, authors have the opportunity to purchase immediate open access to MPMI articles. Single articles with open access are clearly marked in the journal tables of contents.

“Our journals represent the center of our universe. They are critical to our future as a science and as a professional organization,” according to Jim MacDonald, APS President. “It is essential that we make the research published in our journals widely accessible to the electronic audience of today, while at the same time protecting the financial health of those journals and ultimately of APS.”

Important archival research in plant pathology is being digitized and made available via Open Access.

Through a partnership with the University of Wisconsin Library, plans are in progress to digitize all APS journal research published prior to 1997 all the way back to the very first volumes of the journals. The archival content is available open access.

Unmatched in the Science of Plant Pathology

Since 1908, The American Phytopathological Society (APS) has been leading the way in plant pathology research. As a nonprofit society, APS publishes these journals to stimulate plant disease research and enable those throughout the world to benefit from advances in the science.
