Examples, fees, and submission information
Color
Replace your article's black and white images in
print with color images online. Click here to see Jean
Ristaino's minireview (PDF FILE) in the November 1998 issue of Phytopathology
where figures 2 and 5 appear in color online.

FEE: An extra $20 per figure.

SUBMISSION: With your initial submission, indicate to the senior editor that you
wish to publish specific figures in color online. Include the color print original. Be specific
in your cover letter that your figure is black and white in print, but color
online.

Supplemental
Materials
Supplemental materials must be reviewed by the
editorial board, follow journal style, and be in a final format that will require no
editing or modification by journal staff. Submission must also include a short description
of the supplemental item. This description will be appended to your article's
online
abstract. Supplemental materials will not be included in the print or year-end CD-ROM
versions of the journal. Click here to see an article

to an extra table not available in print.

FEE: $20 per item.

SUBMISSION: APS will accept MS Word and WordPerfect word processing documents; MS
Excel and Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheets; HTML documents (see specifications below); and jpeg
and gif image files (see specifications below). Note that viewers for Word, WordPerfect,
Excel, and Lotus 1-2-3 may be downloaded for free from their respective home sites. APS
will include a link to the appropriate viewer along with a description of the supplemental
file format.

HTML file specifications: Files must be formatted to fit a 640 × 480 pixel
screen. For best results fonts should be specified as Times, Times New Roman, Arial, or
Helvetica.

JPEG and GIF file specifications: Images must not exceed 350 pixels on the
longest side (approx. 83K in file size). Jpeg images should be saved at quality settings
of 7 or higher.

Approved Websites
Your online article can contain links to
GenBank or other sites on the web that are approved by the APS Publications Board. Links
to personal web pages are not allowed.

FEE: Up to five links free of charge; additional links, $5 each.

SUBMISSION: Simply submit the requested links with your article for review.. make
sure the URL's are complete, commencing with "http://"

Online
Figures for Plant Disease Notes
Up to two figures may be provided to supplement your online Plant
Disease Note. Click here to see an example of this
e-Xtra.

FEE: $20 per figure.

SUBMISSION: Figures should not be referred to in the note itself, but can include
captions of up to 50 words. Images should be provided in .jpeg format and must not exceed 350
pixels on the longest side, and should be saved at quality settings of 7 or higher.

Interpretive Summaries of
Research
Each author of a Plant Disease
research article is invited to submit a one-paragraph summary, written for a lay audience.
These summaries, available from the public area of Plant Disease
online, are
part of an initiative to share plant pathology research with a broader, less specialized
audience. Interpretive summaries will not appear in the print version of the journal.

FEE: Free of charge.

SUBMISSION: Submit with the paper. Arrangements should be made with the senior
editor handling the review of the paper.
