French-Monar Application for
Latin American Plant Pathologists
The American Phytopathology Society Foundation invites applications for Graduate Students and Early Career Latin American
Plant Pathologists Travel Awards for attending the Joint Meeting of the National Congress of the Mexico Phytopathology Society, Latin American Phytopathology Congress and the APS Caribbean Division in Riviera Maya, Mexico, May 20-24, 2007.
The APS Foundation, furthering the goals of the French-Monar Latin American Fund, is announcing the availability of five (5) awards to graduate students and early career Latin American plant pathologists. Each award will be for $500.00. The awards will be given to cover travel, hotel and registration fees. The guidelines and criteria for the awards follow. Guidelines and Criteria
- This is a competitive award to graduates students and early career plant pathologists in Latin American countries who obtained their highest degree in the last 10 years. The main criterion for the award is the professional promise of student applicants and the apparent productivity of each early career applicant.
- The award, consisting of $500.00, is given to each of five (5) plant pathologists and is aimed to help pay for the costs associated with attending the Joint Meeting of the National Congress of the Mexico Phytopathology Society, Latin American Phytopathology Congress and the APS Caribbean Division in Riviera Maya, Mexico, May 20-24, 2007.
- Applicants must be a current graduate student or be an early career plant pathologists with an ingeniero agronomo or equivalent, or an advanced degree, obtained within the last 10 years. The applicant must be a graduate student or currently employed at an established institution.
- Applications must include the following information: For students: name, degree program, name of advisor, and name of institution. For early career professionals: name, name and date of highest degree received, and name of institution granting it. All applicants should list the institution or agency where presently enrolled as a student or employed, department, mailing address and without exception E-mail.
- Applications must be in English and must include 1) For graduate students: a letter of support from the student’s advisor and a short description of the student’s professional goals (no more than 250 words, written by the student). For early career professionals: a brief resume that is a maximum of two pages which describes the main duties and accomplishments of each scientist and 2) a copy of an abstract of a paper to be presented at the congress either orally or as a poster.
- Applications will be evaluated by the APS French-Monar Funds Awards Committee, which will approve and notify by e-mail the 5 awardees.
Application Process

March 20, 2007.
- Submit a complete application including a copy of the abstract by e-mail to José Amador at
j-amador@msn.com by March 25, 2007.
- Those who will receive the awards will be notified by the Chairman of the APS French-Monar Fund Awards Committee by e-mail shortly afterwards and no later than
April 10, 2007.
