| Figure 4. This image shows how vegetation patterns in August 1993 differed from a 20 year average. Vegetation density was measured monthly with satellite images and then the vegetation density from August 1993 was compared to the average. Green areas show where extra rainfall has resulted in lush vegetation and brown areas are where low rainfall has caused less growth. This type of data can be used to measure drought severity.
