Opportunities for All Plant Pathologists in the 21st Century

On the occasion of our centennial, the Joint Committee on Women in Plant Pathology and Cultural Diversity invite you to explore, in a special Centennial Session at the 2008 Annual Meeting, the work that has been done and the work that remains to be done for Optimizing Opportunity for Everyone in Plant Pathology. This session will specifically look at the historical status of women in plant pathology, the current status of underrepresented groups, how we have worked to optimize opportunity for everyone in plant pathology, and what we need to do for those who still face unfair barriers to their success. A lively and challenging discussion will follow the presentations. We invite you to bring your thoughts to the forum and participate in the discussion.

The American Phytopathological Society is looking forward to celebrating its 100th Anniversary in 2008. We are very excited about gathering the relevant, historical, and truly unique aspects of plant pathology together for the Centennial celebration. We hope to provide members not only a retrospective look back, but also a look at the way forward. Several groups are already working on various activities to make this a truly special occasion.

The centennial is a celebration by and for all APS members. Here are some easy ways to get involved:

  • Mark your calendar for the APS Centennial Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, July 26-30, 2008. You won’t want to miss this meeting!

  • If you have ideas for celebrating this occasion or are interested in volunteering your time, complete the Centennial Ideas form

  • Become part of the APS Centennial Time Capsule, to be opened 25 years from now.

  • Help us to commemorate and chronicle our 100-year history by adding to the historical timeline.

  • Take the Centennial Quiz and find out what you know about APS and its history!
