ACCOMPLISHMENTS •Developed blast resistant gene pyramided rice varieties (Pi-1, Pi-2 and PiKh genes) through conventional and Marker Assisted Selection breeding approach where, I am one of the co-author for nominating and registering blast resistant rice germ plasms with National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resource, India. •Optimized transformation protocol for recalcitrant MR219 local elite rice variety to incorporate novel rice blast resistant genes and Herbicide resistant gene (BAR gene) through transgenic approach. •Cloned plasmids into ccdB-resistant E. coli DB3.1 strain and these vectors are using in developing transgenic Cytoplasmic Male Sterile rice lines which in turn be used in developing Hybrid rice varieties. •Identified Avirulence genes (AVR) in Magnaporthe grisea fungus using different molecular markers which is first of its kind reported from the Indian subcontinent this findings will aid in deployment of corresponding blast resistant genes in rice varieties to develop durable blast resistant rice varieties for specific areas especially for diverse agro climatic regions. •Identified new resources for blast resistance genes in local elite rice varieties using specific gene flanking SSR markers. These varieties can contribute as a potential resistant donor in rice breeding programs for developing durable blast resistant rice varieties.
