Lead NAFTA Plant Health – Req #: 00UEJ Woodland, CA
Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated NAFTA Plant Health Lead to join our team. The Plant Health Application lead is responsible for all aspects related to Plant Health Application activities in one or more specific areas of expertise (Pathology; including bacteriology, entomology, mycology, nematology and virology). The position has responsibility for all Vegetable Breeding Technology (VBT) Plant Health labs and greenhouses in NAFTA for their specific expertise and all testing strategy and competency. The position is responsible for leading and supporting various Plant Health continuous improvement initiatives, providing critical information to all involved departments to achieve Company goals.
Key Business Accountabilities: •Hire, train, develop, and supervise employees •Effectively train, develop and manage full-time, professional employees •Responsible for performance reviews, DPR goals and ratings •Overall supervision and management of Plant Health Application labs and greenhouses in NAFTA •Defines, adapts, implements and harmonizes Plant Health testing procedures, methods and protocols for all vegetable testing labs regionally. •Works with other functional areas related to Plant Health in the development and implementation of new technologies and protocol for Resistance testing •Leads Plant Health training efforts in the area of plant pathology (bacteriology, entomology, mycology (fungi and oomycetes), nematology, virology/viroid) testing •Actively participate in global proficiency and competency program to ensure harmonization of protocols and results within the global network of plant health labs and greenhouses •Track regional lab metrics through the employment of various networking tools to manage workload levels and testing backlog strategies in cooperation with key stakeholders •Manage and optimize budget/resources for the NAFTA Plant Health organization •Identify cost saving measures and process efficiencies in support of the company’s overall profitability and growth •Complete and oversee the strategic long range planning and implementation for the regional Plant Health lab •Keep frequent contact with lab managers in NAFTA and world-wide to ensure testing support is not compromised
Required Education/Skills: •PhD degree with 3+ years experience or Masters (M.S) with 5+ years in seed or other relevant industry with a combination of research, operational experience, quality assurance, breeding, genetics, marketing, production and/or inventory management •Excellent human relation skills, effective oral and written communication skills are required •Excellent analytical skills to study data and processes and develop suggestions for improvement of products or processes •Demonstrated supervisor and teaching abilities are critical •The ability to clearly present information and influence or persuade others through oral or written communications (multilingual in local language/English) •Ability to work in a fast-paced global and multi-cultural vegetable seed company •Decision making and problem solving skills. Capability to take action in solving problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues •Challenging the status quo to improve processes and the way things are done •Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, SAP, and email
Desired Education/Skills: •Experience of managing a small or medium size team is desirable •Six Sigma / LEAN certificate and ISO background are beneficial but not required •Experience in personel development
