Job Details
A Post-Doctoral Associate position is anticipated in the Department of Plant Pathology at Washington State University, Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center, Prosser, WA. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for planning and conducting independent research on molecular biology of closteroviruses infecting grapevines. The research involves the use of infectious cDNA clones and reverse genetics approaches for viral functional genomics and study host-virus interactions using model and non-model plant systems. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively with other members in the lab. The candidate will have opportunities to participate in lab- and field-based research projects on grapevine viruses. The position will be renewed annually based on performance matrices. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Job Requirements
Ph.D. in Plant Virology, Plant Molecular Biology, Plant Biochemistry, or related field of science is required by the start date. The position requires demonstrated expertise through publications in any of the following areas: molecular biology of plant viruses, next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics, plant tissue culture and transformation, host-virus interactions. The selected candidate is expected to conduct research independently, publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present research findings at scientific and industry meetings. The candidate must have the willingness to work in the lab and greenhouse (and grower fields, if necessary) to conduct research and be flexible to take additional research projects as necessary. The candidate must also work well in a multi-cultural, interdisciplinary team setting and have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
