Name     Close Job Number 576 Job Title Senior Biological Scientist Job Category Field Scientist, Lab Scientist Field Of Study General Plant Pathology Job Details The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, Citrus Research and Education Center located in Lake Alfred, Florida, is recruiting for a Sr. Biological Scientist. The primary responsibility of this position is to collaborate on the design and conduct research on the epidemiology, host resistance and control of citrus diseases of fruit and foliage caused by fungi and bacteria with traditional and molecular mycological and bacteriological techniques.  This would include investigating the effects of the environment on diseases, model development for disease prediction and fungicide evaluations.  Use of specialized equipment such as qPCR apparatus, compound and dissecting microscopes, spore traps and weather equipment.  Must be able to independently conduct statistical analyses of data and prepare tables and graphs for publication using personal computers and general statistical software packages.  Occasional disease diagnosis will be necessary.  Additional duties as a lab manager, such as order supplies, maintenance of fungal collections, and servicing of lab and field equipment will also be important. Job Requirements A bachelor's degree  in an appropriate area of specialization and three years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.  A valid Florida Driver’s License is required.
