Job Details
We seek an outstanding scientist who will develop a nationally recognized research and teaching program with research emphasis on the genetics of host plant resistance and plant breeding of maize. The successful candidate will be expected to use plant breeding, plant pathology, and molecular genetic tools to address important research questions in maize improvement. The person selected for this position will develop a research program that integrates molecular genetics with field-oriented plant breeding and pathology to help solve problems and generate knowledge of practical significance to the agricultural industry and academia.
The successful candidate will become part of a broad, dynamic, and internationally recognized faculty in agriculture. This individual will become an integral part of the plant pathology and plant breeding program in the Department of Crop Sciences, will participate in the Illinois Maize Breeding and Genetics Laboratory, be a member of the Illinois Plant Breeding Center, and will collaborate in multidisciplinary teams investigating maize breeding and genetics, maize pathogens, gene expression and molecular genetics, and plant protection. It is expected that the successful candidate will collaborate nationally and internationally, obtain extramural funding for research, and develop private-public cooperative relationships. The incumbent is expected to teach in the areas of plant breeding or plant pathology or other topics and to contribute to the plant breeding and plant pathology curriculum in the department.
This is a 9-month, academic, tenure track named professorship with opportunity for summer appointment. Responsibilities will include research, teaching, and outreach. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package. The Monsanto Professorship includes programmatic support and a salary stipend. The position is available as soon as possible after the closing date.
Job Requirements
A Ph.D. in plant pathology, plant breeding, or a related discipline, is required. The successful applicant must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communications skills; demonstrate clear desire and ability to propose, conduct and report independent and team-based research; and demonstrate desire and ability to develop an excellent teaching program.
