Detrick, Maryland, is seeking a POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, (Research Molecular Biologist/Research Plant Pathologist) for a TWO YEAR APPOINTMENT. The incumbent will utilize whole genome sequence information to develop PCR-based assays that can be used to differentiate the Triticum pathotype of Magnaporthe oryzae, the causal agent of wheat blast, from other pathotypes. The incumbent will also utilize the existing full genome sequence data for this organism to develop hypotheses related to virulence and host specificity. Knowledge of “next generation” sequencing platforms, bioinformatics, PCR-based detection methods, general molecular biology techniques, and fungal plant pathogens is desirable. Portions of the research project are performed in a biocontainment facility (BSL-3). This position requires the selectee to undergo a pre-employment check and a full background investigation.
