Name     Close Job Number 541 Job Title Food Safety Outreach Specialist - Vegetable & Fruit Extension Job Category Extension Field Of Study Any Job Details This position will support the extension efforts of fruit and vegetable production faculty in the UW-Madison Departments of Plant Pathology and Horticulture by serving as an extension program leader in the area of food safety in production and post-harvest handling. Incumbent will generate a suite of educational materials and programs to fruit and vegetable growers and processors to meet consumer expectations and guidelines for GAP/GHP and minimize food safety risks to Wisconsin residents and liability to Wisconsin produce growers. Coordination of on-farm demonstrations of good food safety practices will be necessary to fully integrate activities of commercial industry with outreach specialist. Specific tasks will include: 1) Develop relationships with stakeholders and advisors to identify information gaps in certification requirements and remediation recommendations (15%) 2) Identify and analyze currently available sources of food safety information, including original scientific literature, and based on these materials, create centralized information resource/clearinghouse for fruit and vegetable producers (15%) 3) Generate suite of educational materials and programs that fruit and vegetable growers (wholesale and fresh/direct market) and processors can utilize to meet consumer expectations and guidelines for GAP/GHP and minimize food safety risks to Wisconsin residents and liability to Wisconsin produce growers (50%) a. Educational deliverables may include bulletins, fact sheets, webinars, on-site workshops, farm visits, oral presentations at grower educational conferences, online modules, poster presentations b.
